About this Item

Description:

4to, tabloid format, offset printed on newsprint with spot color. Profusely illustrated with photographs and drawings. Text in Dutch. With a variant issue of the tenth number (see below). All issues published of this periodical produced by the Kabouters, a Dutch anarchist group at the dawn of the 1970's which grew out of the Provo movement, especially the group's ambitious White Plans, and which was informed by Provo member Roel van Duijn's book "De boodschap van Een Wijze Kabouter". The group was an important further realization of the social disruption and radical utopian though of the Provo Movement, especially with regards to environmentalism and consumerism. The group fomented its' own group of "Green Plans", which included adding planters of plants to the tops of cars. The group carried out its' actions under the aegis of the Orange State, a an occasionally realized utopian state constructed as a counter to the Capitalist state of The Netherlands. The scope of the periodical was wide, encompassing not only urban planning and political content, but other subjects relating to counter-culture and social movements, including the Black Panther Party, sexuality, drugs, the occult, and underground comics. The second number includes a full page "Kanker Autos" (i. e. Cancer Cars" graphic) that is brilliant. The final issue includes A. J. Weberman on Bob Dylan. This run includes the special supplement, issued to announce the election of Roel van Duyn, Conny Bos, Frans van Bommel, Guy Killina and Joop Peters to office. The tenth number here is also an unusual variant from the normal issue, with two printed stickers pasted down onto cover, and with Roel Van Duyn's face nearlyt excised with a small doodle above it. The first page also has a small yellow sticker, with a text that begins "Waterdicht Juridies Advies" (aka watertight legal advice) pasted in alongside the printed "Sabotage Informatie" text. Though we've handled this issue multiple times, this is the first copy we've seen with these changes and additions. A generally very good set, with horizontal folds to most issues and varying degrees of toning, particularly to the last two newsprint issues, and some moderate handling creases.
