I CAN

Cooper Kammel is a 17-year old high school student from Long Beach, California. After growing up and overcoming life-threatening food allergies, Cooper wrote this book to tell her story and use it to inspire young readers to rise above their circumstances and focus on what they can do. She hopes to educate others on the idea that “normal” doesn’t exist and to empower them to embrace who they are more comfortably and confidently. All proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the SoCal Food Allergy Institute to support its mission of helping children achieve “food freedom” by eradicating food allergies. Additionally, for every 5 books sold, Cooper will donate one book to a new patient at SoCal Food Allergy Institute to support their food freedom journey!

I CAN is an interactive story that examines why being unique is so important. While I CAN views the idea of being unique through the lens of food allergies, this book is about learning to create more inclusive and welcoming spaces for all types of people. The goal of this book is to help children be more proud of who they are and embrace being different–after all, kids can do so much more than they think. I CAN is about raising awareness, educating others, and creating a more compassionate and connected world for all. Cooper hopes that I CAN helps children tell their own story and allows them to share with others what makes them unique.
