These how-to volumes, written by two skilled and prominent practitioners of Jap anese karate, cover 13 Shotokan kata (for mal sequences of karate techniques). Each begins with a brief text explaining how to practice the kata, then follows with sec tions of photos showing, step by step, how to perform them. Useful information is in cluded on how to prepare physically and mentally for karate. The introductory sec tions are readable, but the fact that the photos are not accompanied by text at times makes the kata sequences difficult to follow. Recommended only for those li braries building exhaustive martial arts collections.
