Collected here are Engels' letters, dated from January 1887 to July 1890, many of which are addressed to key participants in the workers' and socialist movements in Europe and the United States. Letters in this volume concern the two 1889 International Paris Congresses organized by the Worker's Party of France and the Possibilists. They also document the international May Day celebrations the year following, and the slow beginnings of the Second International. Other letters contain information about Engels' work editing Marx's writings, especially Capital Volume 2. Engels also corresponds with his American publishers concerning his own work, especially the Condition of the Working Class in Britain . Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
