Add to basketPublished for the propritor by Hurst, Chance and Co, [London], Nove. 1827; 8vo, pp [i-iii], iv-x, [xi], 312; printed coloured wreath by Stothard and 14 of 18 other listed engraved plates by various artists; wood engraved head and tail pieces; contemporarty red cloth, spine gilt, chalk blue end papers, with the label of John Swan, Bookbinder, Burnley on the front pastedown; binding a little rubbed on the head, foot and edges of the spine, back hinge cracked internally (but still quite firm) but generally clean and firm throughout. . . This is the first issue of the literary annual, "The Keepsake", intended for the Christmas market and in this instance published in November 1827. The stipple-engraved bouquet after Stothard is an early instance of colour printing, remarkably resembling a manuscript illustration. The volume contains also the first appearance of P B Shelley's "Sadak the Wanderer", here illustrated with a steel engraving after John Martin. Also published is Leigh Hunt's "Pocket Books and Keepsakes". The publication ran until 1857. and later editions contained works by Mary Shelley, Scott, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Felicia Hemans and Southey.

Books are described carefully, accurately and fairly. Despite this errors can occur and of course we'll acknowledge any brought to our attention. If this error is material then we'll either make an appropriate partial refund or allow you to return the book at our cost and make a full refund of the book and postage costs originally paid by you.

Books are priced individually and those prices do not include shipping costs or insurance. Books can also be collected, by arrangement.
The shipping matrix is, and can only be, a very rough guide to postage costs being based, as it is, on a base weight of 1kg (2.2lbs), with the additional book bringing that weight up to a maximum of 2Kg and with the package as a whole fitting in to the "small parcel" criterion of height + width + depth not exceeding 90cm and with no single side longer than 60cm (which certainly covers ordinary books, of course).
In consequence, postage costs may be less or more than estimated in that matrix but will always be charged at whatever rate Royal Mail has come up with at the time. We'll also seek to minimise postal charges by packing two or more books together or by using carriers for larger consignments, as appropriate. As for compensation for loss or damage in transit, Royal Mail has quietly reduced the amounts that can be claimed to £20.00 in general but additional insurance can be had and we'll let you know how much that will be where necessary.
