24pp, printed green wraps, minor general wear, small ink name stamped at front wrap, tiny chip noted at top edge. Dr. Benjamin Franklin Stevenson, b. 1812, Mason County, Kentucky, attended Transylvania Medical College from whence he graduated near the top of his class in 1841 then moved to Boone County. Major Stevenson served as Surgeon in the 22nd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, and was later named Surgeon General of the Grand Army of the Republic. An exceptionally scarce piece of Kentucky Civil War history. See Coleman #1274, "Relates to Kentucky's part in the early days of the Civil War and her efforts to maintain neutrality.".
