Item description from seller

Hardcover without jacket. Condition: VG. Cover has mild shelf wear head and tail of spine; spine slightly faded; corners rubbed. Octavo; 536 pp. Blue cloth binding; silver lettering front cover and spine. Illustrated with hundreds of glossy b/w plates, and numerous plans of individual buildings and towns. This is a pictorial survey of architecture, from antiquity to modern times. It was conceived as a companion for H. W. Janson's Key Monuments of the History of Art but it has become an important reference work on its own. Its section headings are I. The Ancient World; II. Asia and America; III. The Middle Ages; IV. The Renaissance; V. The Modern World. Each section has a list of the illustrations therein, individually identified and with bibliographical references. Text also includes Index of Persons and Places, and List of Abbreviated Sources. Binding is sound; clean text, no markings. This is an invaluable reference for anyone learning the history of architecture.

Champlain Valley Books seeks to acquire the private libraries of academic professionals, in particular college professors of the Humanities. Our experience is that academics collect the notable and important books in their areas of specialty, and that they take good care of them. When we acquire such a library, we seek to pass along its books to discriminating readers and collectors who appreciate these works of scholarly and literary merit.
