Item description from seller

London: I. and J. Walter, 1806. John Jervis, 1st Earl of St. Vincent (1735-1823) was a patron of Lord Nelson, a Royal Navy officer, Admiral of the Fleet, and a British politician. He was active during the French Revolutionary War and the Napoleonic Wars. In 1805 and 1806 Jeffry brought charges against him for neglect during his tenure as lord of the admiralty for neglecting shipbuilding, logistical problems and more. The charges were ultimately unsuccessful. The book details these happenings and is interesting for its discussions of issues and problems with ships ordered and commissioned, officer promotions, timber, copper sheathing, the working of shipwrights, and so on. Softcover wraps, 198 pages. **Affixed to the back endpapers are several interesting articles from the early 1800s relating to these happenings; one describes a libel lawsuit brought by Earl against the issuer of certain pamphlets about him ** Very good condition, firmly bound, light tanning to title page, some splottchy spotting on back cover.
