قبلَ أن تغادر أرسلتْ عينيها المسكونة بالشّجن في المدى, تلاحقُ بنظراتٍ قلقة حفيفَ هواء مسّه جنونٌ فعدا يطارد السراب..! كان ثمّة أعين تراقبُ الموقف عن كثب.. ترجّل صاحبُ تلك العينين من سيارته الفارهةِ لحظة رآها تنكّس رأسها, وتمضي بعيدًا, تجرجر خيبة أمل ثقيلة. قرّر محيي مباغتةَ الجميع, سيثور بعنفوانٍ محطّمًا قيوده, ولسوفَ يتيهُ مزهوًّا بالأطوار التي استجدّت عليه. ترهق "وعد" نفسَها في العمل؛ لتهربَ من قسوة لوم يجلدُها صباح مساء, تتكرّر الأسئلة وتلحّ حتّى تغدو كقرْع جرسٍ لا ينقطع تُرى هل الحب مخزونٌ لا ينفد, طاقة لا تنتهي؟, هل هو قوة أم ضعف, أم هو كما قيل قرينٌ للجنون؟! تتمرّد الإجابات وتتوارى في متاهاتِ الهروب, ساخرة من سطْوة الأسئلة, يكدّ الفكر ركضًا خلفها, تاركًا "وعد" أسيرةَ العجز عن الفهم! شعرت بالسّخط يتعالى في أعماقها كأذرعِ بركانٍ ثار للتّو, تضايقت بشدّة من نفسها لأنّها لم تقرّر على الفور الانتقامَ منه, وإزهاق روحه!
