Grade 6-9-Dashefsky combines general information on specific types of environmental pollution with descriptions of actions students can take and projects suitable for science fairs. Each chapter includes a short overview, thorough definitions of relevant terms, suggestions for "living green," and a science-fair type of activity. Many of the suggestions involve "urging" friends to help and contacting officials. The writing style is straightforward, and illustrations are clearly rendered black-ink drawings and diagrams. There are many other books on improving and protecting our environment as well as collections of science-fair projects; perhaps the most useful feature of this one is its extensive list of organizations devoted to environmental issues, which is organized by specific function and includes addresses.
