Grade 3-6--In this inviting, easy-to-use resource, children will learn the basics of performing and perfect their technique with boxed tips from the "Master Magician." The tricks make use of cards, rubber bands, coins, ropes, scarves, eating utensils, and a variety of props (such as magic wands). The description of each trick includes a summary of what will happen, a list of necessary items, and step-by-step directions complete with clear illustrations. With practice, children can entertain family and friends with their new abilities. The last chapter provides advice about how readers can discover their "Magician Personality," plan their act, and organize props. Appropriate jokes and instructions for making a top hat are provided. A resource guide lists Web sites, books and magazines, magic clubs, supply stores, and suggestions for finding camps and classes. A few typographical errors appear. Cartoons done in blue ink show enthusiastic youngsters practicing their skills. Along with Peter Eldin's "I Want to Do Magic" series (Millbrook), this title will surely please both novices and those more experienced in the art of magic.--Augusta R.
