Large, thick, hardback, original brick-red cloth covers, beveled edges, gilt lettering and decorations on the spine and front cover. Clearly an ex-library copy of some sort although no pockets and only a couple of small handwritten numbers in the front. A stamp on the verso of the front fly leaf indicates it was in a German library at one point. Wonderful illustrations throughout: especially nice is the two-page plate in the front showing the Suspension Bridge between Brooklyn and New York City. The fold-out illustration of a train (Westinghouse's Atmospheric Brake for Railway Cars) is in perfect condition. The text block is in very good condition. Bookseller Inventory #
