N� en 1886 � Albi et mort en 1962 � Ciboure, Pierre Beno�t a v�cu une partie de son enfance en Alg�rie et en Tunisie. Licenci� �s lettres, il devient fonctionnaire puis grand reporter. Il publie son premier roman, Kœnigsmark, en 1918 puis L’Atlantide (Grand Prix du roman de l’Acad�mie fran�aise en 1919). Grand voyageur, romancier f�cond, il conna�t tout au long de sa vie d’�crivain, un succ�s exceptionnel. Nombre de ses romans ont �t� adapt�s au cin�ma. Il a �t� �lu � l’Acad�mie fran�aise le 11 juin 1931.
