The Kourier began in 1924 as the official magazine of the Ku Klux Klan and was distributed to both its members and the public. In early 1929, the Imperial Wizard and the magazine’s editorial board decided to issue a new internal magazine with the same name to communicate more sensitive information to its members. The cover reminds members: "This is the Klan Edition of the Kourier. IT MUST NOT BE SHOWN TO ANY ALIEN NOR LEFT WHERE ANY ALIEN MAY SEE IT." This issue includes an article by Imperial Wizard, Dr Hiram Evans titled "Our Duty of Supremacy" "on the responsibility of the white race to maintain its power and leadership"; sections called "Things Klansmen Should Know," on current events, "Under the Fiery Cross," on the activities and successes of the organization’s chapters, "Comments For and Against Us," on the media’s portrayal of the Klan; and a number of short anti-Catholic articles. Stapled wrappers (8" x 5"), 22 p. A fine copy. Scarce.
