On Kruger Pond (Paperback)

Paperback. Who could believe that Canada geese can be potty trained? Or that a crippled gander could persuade a goose to give up flying to be his mate? Gerry Kruger chronicles the true adventures of Charlie, a flightless Canada goose that arrived on her pond in 2000. Charlie's courageous battle for survival despite his disability is inspirational to those with disabilities and will appeal to animal and nature lovers of all ages. Gerry read her essays about Charlie on National Public Radio, and they became a favorite among listeners in Charlottesville, Virginia and the surrounding counties. Below are excerpts from two listeners: "I listen to WVTF every day as I drive to and from Charlottesville from my home in Fishersville, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the essays on Charlie. But somewhere in Charlie's story there is encouragement for children that may have some sort of physical handicap, as my granddaughter has." "I write with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes as I realize just how connected I have become to this lame goose some 100 miles away.I have been following the enchanting, sensitive, and compelling stories about Charlie for years. Her writing has reminded me to pause, take a deep breath, look out my windows, and embrace the nature that surrounds me." This item is printed on demand.
