THE LAST DAUGHTER OF ASH CREEK

THE LAST DAUGHTER OF ASH CREEK

Some stories are remembered. Others refuse to be forgotten.

When twenty-five-year-old schoolteacher Evelyn Carter knocks on the door of eighty-six-year-old Mahalia "Hali" Freeman in the summer of 1934, she expects to record the memories of one former enslaved woman.

Instead, she is entrusted with the testimony of an entire generation.

Born on Georgia's Ash Creek Plantation in 1848, Hali has lived through slavery, the Civil War, emancipation, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, and nearly a century of American history. Through heartbreak, courage, faith, and unwavering determination, she carries the voices of those whose names history nearly erased.

From mothers who taught freedom long before it became law to fathers remembered only through whispered songs... from children born into bondage to generations born free... Hali's story is one of survival, family, love, grief, and the unbreakable spirit of a people determined to remain human in an inhumane world.

Written in a deeply intimate Southern Black voice, The Last Daughter of Ash Creek is a sweeping historical novel that honors the lives, memories, and resilience of those who endured.

Powerful.

Heartbreaking.

Hopeful.

Because history is more than dates.

History is the people who survived long enough to tell it.
