LAST TO FINISH IN MATH CLASS - A STORY ABOUT LEARNING DIFFERENTLY

An encouraging math picture book about timed tests, confidence, and learning differently

Max is convinced he's terrible at math. Every time his teacher starts the timer for multiplication facts, the same thing happens: his heart pounds, his hands sweat, and his mind freezes. One by one, his classmates finish and turn in their papers. Max is always the last. Sometimes he still has problems left undone. And when a classmate starts chanting "Max, Max, last in math," it feels even worse.

But here's the surprising truth: Max isn't bad at math at all.

When a parent-teacher conference reveals that Max has been secretly solving algebra problems for fun, everyone begins to see what the timer had been hiding. Max doesn't struggle with understanding numbers―he struggles with memorizing under pressure. He's a deep thinker, a problem solver, and maybe even a future math team star, as long as there's one condition: No timer.

Part of the Adventures of Everyday Geniuses series, this uplifting and relatable picture book gently explores:

• Math anxiety and timed-test stress
• The difference between memorizing and understanding
• Teasing and self-doubt
• Growth mindset and hidden strengths
• Celebrating different learning styles

Perfect for ages 4–8, classrooms, and families, this empowering story reassures children that being "last" doesn't mean being "least." Sometimes it just means you learn in your own way―and that way might be extraordinary.

Because not everyone learns the same way...and that's more than okay.
