Item description from seller

Second "replica" printing of the original 1922 publication. Unpaged - 68 pages (plus covers). Staple-bound paperback: H 26.75cm x L 17.75cm. Brown paper covers, shallow staining at front cover's center fore-edge margin with faint crease to top corner, mild soiling to rear cover. A few foxing spots to text block's fore-edge with a few leaves shallowly affected at margins. Interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. A very good copy. Documents the 34 schools of the Lauderdale County School Distinct plus Meridian High School in 1922 with b/w photographs of the buildings, lists of teachers, description of grounds, equipment, etc. Whimsical 1920s charm in reviewing the various facilities as, for instance, the proverbial one-room schoolhouse (it could not be any larger as evidenced by the photo) in Sageville had one outhouse, a single teacher, and seventeen students ranging from first grade to eighth. This February 1978 "replica" reprint (following a first replica reprint issued in November 1977) was sponsored by Lauderdale County School District Superintendent of Education Douglas Little but was originally prepared in 1922 by Lauderdale County Superintendent of Education J.A. Riddell [James Anderson Riddell] and State Supervisor of Rural Schools J.T. Calhoun [Jesse Thompson Calhoun] and printed by Meridian's Dement Printing Company. Laid-in to book is an undated but early 1900s (postmark appears to be 190?) postcard with b/w photos of [Hickory] High School and Christian Church in rural Hickory, Mississippi in Newton County immediately west of Lauderdale County.…
