About this Item

Original Wraps. 4to. 38 pages. 26 cm. First edition. "The Law" and the law of change: a tentative study in comparative jurisprudence. Offprint. Reprinted from University of Pennsylvania law review Vol. 65, May and June, 1917. Introduction by Adolph S. Oko. Signed by Adolph S. Oko on front wraps. Essay on cycles in legal history (biblical and secular) . Nathan Isaacs was a professor of Business Law at Harvard. Isaacs cultivated his cycle theory under the influences of Hegel, the Historical School of Jurisprudence, and the reaction against formalism in American law in the early twentieth century. However, he was also a defender of the authority of Jewish law and a possible motivation for his work was a desire to refute the arguments of biblical critics. Isaacs‘s attempt to forge a synthesis among Jewish law, Anglo-American law and society is a remarkable example of fruitful intellectual cross-fertilization. Subjects: Jewish law. Jurisprudence. OCLC lissts 8 copies. Wraps soiled, otherwise clean and fresh. Very good + condition. (BIBLE-13-16) Bible3, law1. (ja). Bookseller Inventory # 34816
