Facts and fiction of Judge Roy Bean (c. 1825-1903) who convened court in in his Langtry, Texas saloon, and being a true son of the rugged West, died there as well. The narrative is preceded by The Song of Roy Bean, with The Ballad of Roy Bean to the rear. The song begins, "Cowboys, come and hear a story oif Roy Bean in all his glory/'All the law west of the Pecos' read his sign", and the ballad says, "Judge Roy Bean of Vinegarroon/Held high court in his own saloon/ . An' ever' once in a while or less/He'd thump with his gun fer a short recess/Step to the bar like a spry ol' lynx/An' call all present to buy some drinks".
