LEAVES FROM A PROSPECTOR'S DIARY

A fine copy. Pp. xi, 214. A collection of reminiscences drawn from the author’s diaries and articles he later wrote for The Western Mail and other newspapers. He prospected on the Croydon fields before moving to Western Australia’s Pilbara and then the Eastern Goldfields, where he achieved success. He is noted for opening up various areas, often in partnership with the well-known prospector Billy Frost. In 1896 he made an epic overland journey from Oodnadatta to Coolgardie via the Warburton Ranges. Later ventures took him to New Guinea and the Klondike in 1898 (both unsuccessful), after which he returned to Western Australia and helped discover Burtville in 1899.
