Maestro atipico, spe�ricolato, Nabokov avrebbe voluto trasfor�mare gli allievi in �buoni lettori�, quelli che non leggono un libro per identificarsi con i personaggi, e tantomeno per impara�re a vivere, giacch� la vera letteratura – gio�co sacro, superiore forma di felicit� – non insegna nulla che possa essere applicato ai problemi della vita. Metteva in guardia con�tro il veleno ideologico del �messaggio� e contro ogni tentativo di cercare la famige�rata �anima russa� nell’opera di giganti come Tolstoj, Čechov, Gogol’ e il pur disa�mato Dostoevskij. Il professor Nabokov non ha alcun metodo, alcun approccio criti�co: con gli unici strumenti della passione e di una precisione infinita, si limita a sco�prire la magia delle parole nelle loro pi� segrete combinazioni.
