Per oltre sessant'anni tra il 1279 e il 1213 a.C. la scena politica e militare dell'Egitto antico fu dominata dalla figura di quello che � stato chiamato il "faraone trionfante", Ramesse II. L'immagine luminosa di questo faraone corrisponde in grande misura alla realt� storica e fu costruita dal sovrano stesso con un'abile politica mirata a creare attorno alla sua persona quello che si potrebbe definire un "culto della personalit�" ante litteram, in tempi che videro l'Egitto contrapposto all'altra grande potenza del Vicino Oriente antico, quella ittita, in un conflitto tanto lungo da apparire una sorta di "guerra dei cent'anni". Nel volume curato da Sergio Pernigotti i testi raccolti ricostruiscono il ripetuto alternarsi di guerra e di pace, fino alla definitiva glorificazione del Faraone e alla sua apoteosi in un Egitto potente e definitivamente pacificato.
