Early reprint. i-xii, 1-244, 1-20 pages. Hardcover: H 17.75cm x L 12.5cm. Original green cloth rubbed with mild mottling, gilt stamping upon spine and front board remains vibrant, light wear and bumping at spine ends, slight scuffing at tips of board corners. Edges browned; floral endpapers; past owner's signature in antiquarian ink with pencil inscription upon half-title page; Author's Preface - "In the following poem I have sought, by the medium of an imaginary Buddhist votary, to depict the life and character and indicate the philosophy of . . . Prince Gautama of India, the founder of Buddhism." Twenty page section at rear features "Notices of 'The Light of Asia'" by Reverend William H. Channing and a Dr. Ripley from the New York Tribune. Still an attractive very good copy.
