LINUX? Network Toolkit

If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. But there are exceptions. Take, for example, the LINUX network, a popular, dependable, and fault-tolerant system. The software is free for download from the Internet, it costs practically nothing to build, and previous LINUX or UNIX experience isnt required -- but you will need a comprehensive tutorial to get started.

Let LINUX® Network Toolkit guide you through the process of designing and maintaining your own LINUX network. Author Paul G. Serys detailed instruction, expert advice, and real-world examples will help you get the job done. LINUX Network Toolkit teaches you how to define your ideal system configuration, use troubleshooting tools, optimize your network, access Windows applications, connect to the Internet, and more.

The bonus CD-ROM features the Red Hat 5.0 LINUX distribution, one of the essential tools for building a powerful and reliable network.

This guide covers installation and configuration of Red Hat 5.0. The first part of the book details how to install Red Hat and set up a simple network. Later sections describe how to set up Samba for a shared Linux-Windows 95 network and how to set up an Internet connection. It also includes a section on network administration and security.

For those users who want to use the Red Hat version of Linux, this book is an excellent resource. The included CD-ROM contains Red Hat 5.0, an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) client, the Apache Web Server, numerous Unix applications, and programming tools. Given the popularity of Red Hat, this may be the best book for the intermediate computer user who wants to run Linux on a PC. --Robert Frankland
