Synopsis

A lioness hides her cub in the long grass while she goes hunting. But the tall grasses are a dangerously insufficient defense against a circling pack of jackals, and an old male lion feels honor-bound to step in to do some babysitting. When Old Lion is challenged by a younger male, he uses the last ounce of his failing energy to ensure the young cub remains safe.

About the Authors

Ruth Brown is highly respected as an author and illustrator. Her Snail Trail was short-listed for the Kate Greenaway Medal, and Ten Seeds won the Best Illustrated Book Award 2001 as well as the Prix Sorcière 2002. Her husband, Ken Brown is an award-winning author, and illustrator of Mucky Pup and Tattybogle.

Ruth Brown has created a great many picture books for Andersen Press and is highly respected as an author and illustrator. Her book, Snail Trail, was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal, and Ten Seeds won the English Best Illustrated Book Award.
