About the Author

Michael D. Tusiani joined Poten & Partners in 1973 and has served as its chairman and chief executive officer since 1983. During his career, he has been active in all aspects of oil and gas trading and transportation. He has written numerous articles on energy and shipping matters and two books, The Petroleum Shipping Industry: A Non-technical Overview (PennWell, 1996) and The Petroleum Shipping Industry: Operations and Practices (PennWell, 1996). He received a B.A. in economics from Long Island University in 1969 and an M.A. from Fordham University in 1970.

Gordon Shearer is president and chief executive officer of Hess LNG LLC, a joint venture of Poten & Partners and Amerada Hess Corporation which was established in June 2004. Before joining Poten & Partners in its Project Development & Finance group in 2001, Shearer was employed from 1978 to 2001 by Cabot Corporation, serving in executive positions with numerous assignments in the corporation’s energy businesses. He received a B.Sc. in Geophysics from Edinburgh University in 1976 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1978. He was appointed to the National Petroleum Council in May 2005.
