Third edition published in 1928 [the book was originally published in 1924]. With black and white illustrations throughout, including a frontispiece showing "Cutty Sark in Sydney Harbour awaiting the wool clip', and nine (two folding) plans, all present as called for. ***Very good in dark blue cloth-covered boards, with gilt titles to the spine. Edges of boards slightly rubbed. Bottom corners bumped. Foxing to prelims, end pages and fore-edge of text-block. Interior pages clean. Spine tight. No dustwrapper. No inscriptions. **216mm x 148mm. xii prelim-pages plus 422 pages including appendix and index to rear. ***'The Cutty Sark is a British clipper ship, built on the River Clyde in Glasgow in 1869 for the Jock Willis Shipping Line. She was one of the last tea clippers to be built and one of the fastest, coming at the end of a long period of design development, which halted as sailing ships gave way to steam propulsion. The ship was sold to the Portuguese company Ferreira and Co. in 1895 and renamed Ferreira. She continued as a cargo ship until purchased in 1922 by retired sea captain Wilfred Dowman, who used her as a training ship operating from Falmouth, Cornwall. After his death, Cutty Sark was transferred to the Thames Nautical Training College, Greenhithe in 1938, where she became an auxiliary cadet training ship alongside HMS Worcester. By 1954, she had ceased to be useful as a cadet ship, and was transferred to permanent dry dock at Greenwich, London, for public display, where she remains to this day.' Proof of postage is obtained for all items, however, we cannot be responsible for items lost or damaged in transit. Therefore, on higher value items, we offer the option of tracked (insured) shipping which offers peace of mind for both the bookseller and the customer. Any title found not to be as described may be returned, provided this is done within fourteen days of its receipt. We are happy to offer a 10% discount on book prices for fellow booksellers. Shipping terms
For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging materials; any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only; for the UK, our standard rate is for first class, and the priority rate includes tracked (signed for) delivery; for International sales, our standard rate is for Airmail delivery, and the priority rate is for tracked (International signed for) delivery. We would prefer that you choose the priority rate (tracked option) for higher value books of say £50 or more. Please note that we will always reduce shipping fees where appropriate e.g. for smaller (lighter) books when we accept your order. For heavier books and sets etc. we will often 'soak up' the extra cost, but on occasion, we may need to charge more than the quoted shipping fee. However, customers will always have the option to either accept or decline the revised order amount. We will also reduce the overall shipping fee for multiple orders. We will endeavour to ship all books within two business days of receiving your order.
