About the Author
He spent time working in the mills and woods, and wrote many articles for scholarly journals on language, history, and folklore. He was the author of The Redwood Country: History and Language, and Folklore and Fundamentals of Modern English, a college remedial text. He was widely known as a reviewer of books on Northern California and the Northwest for Journal of the West and The California Historical Society Quarterly.
Mr. Carranco was Associate Professor of English at Humboldt State College (now Humboldt State University), then Head of the English Department, College of the Redwoods, Eureka, California. Carranco married the former Ruth Cannam of Eureka. Their two sons are Bob and Don. The family home is near Arcata, where Mrs. Carranco still resides.

We accept CREDIT CARDS, CHECKS, MONEY ORDERS, and online PayPal payments. All books are shipped in boxes and carefully packaged We ship orders promptly and include a **TRACKING NUMBER ** with each shipment. We strive to accurately describe the condition of our books by noting all major flaws. Unless otherwise noted, our books are NOT ex-library and are free of underlining and/or highlighting. Most hardback books with dust jackets include a clear dust jacket protector.
Shipping terms
We ship all DOMESTIC United States orders using the United States Postal Service (USPS). Orders can be tracked at the USPS website: usps.com. The cost of domestic media mail postage is $3.99 (Arrival time is usually 5-10 days). The cost of domestic PRIORITY POSTAGE is $14.99 (Arrival time is usually 3-5 days). There is no extra cost for heavy books or multiple volume sets if they are sent via media mail postage.
We will ship all INTERNATIONAL orders via USPS PRIORITY AIRMAIL POST or USPS PRIORITY AIRMAIL FLAT RATE ENVELOPE and charge an initial shipping fee of $75.00 for international orders. If the book is small enough to fit in an International Priority Airmail Envelope then we will REFUND THE COST of any international postage overpayment. WE CANNOT TRACK INTERNATIONAL ORDERS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES. Sometimes international orders arrive later than expected.
All our books are shipped in boxes, carefully packaged, and usually shipped the follwing day. WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT BOOKS WILL ARRIVE WITHIN THE SHIPPING TIMELINES. We strive to mail books promptly but sometimes shipments get delayed for reasons outside our control.
Libraries and institutions may receive special billing terms. WA state residents please be prepared to include state sales tax. Photographs of our books are available upon request. Returns are accepted within 7 days of purchase.
