A minor classic since its first publication in the United States in 1989, this book examines some of the key principles of design and shows how these also underlie much of what we know of art, mathematics and science. It covers such topics as number, ratio and scale, rhythm and harmony, similarity and contrast, and suggests how these may relate to design problems.

Store description
Specialising in good literature, the arts, history, philosophy, science and local interest titles, the Colchester Bookshop occupies three floors of one of the town centre's most recognisable buildings: the archway leading to Tymperleys. Drop in for a browse, be amazed by our quirky rooms and staircases, and wonder at the surviving medieval hall roof of the Colchester home of William Gilberd (1544-1603), physician to Elizabeth I and one of the world's greatest early scientists.
