LOOK CLOSER: A Novel of Inheritance, Silence, and the Truth a Family Buried

When Mduduzi Ndlovu's will is finally read, the silence he spent two decades building starts, bequest by bequest, to come apart. Eleven relatives sit in a Sandton law office rehearsing their faces, certain they know what kind of man he was. None of them are ready for what he chose to leave unsaid or for what it costs to finally say it. Moving between a lawyer's office in Sandton and the streets of Katlehong where the family's fortune was built, Look Closer follows the people left holding what Mduduzi never spoke aloud: a woman deciding whether gratitude is worth her voice, a boy taught early that being different made him a burden, and a family that has always preferred the photograph to the truth. This is a novel about inheritance in every sense of money, of silence, of harm passed quietly from one generation to the next and about what it takes, finally, to look closer. An emotional rollercoaster of passing pain from one individual to the other, which is a true reflection of what transpires in our societies.

From the first chapter it will keep you guessing what will happen next, not sure which character stands out as the one to vouch for and which one to hate. A book that expounds on corruption, family conflicts, love, difference, abuse and somehow making the reader identify themselves within the storyline, a tale that proves that silence has nothing golden attached to it and where regret becomes the order of the day.
