Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Second Edition. Three volumes. All three are 1967 second impressions of the second edition which contained Tolkien's revisions to the text, and a new foreword. 424; 352; 440 pp. Folding maps to the rear of each volume (first two are maps of Middle-Earth, the latter the detailed map of Gondor and Mordor). Original publisher's dark red cloth with gilt lettering to spines; top edges stained red. In original grey-green pictorial jackets newly designed for this edition, all price clipped. The jackets had been housed in old plastic wrappers which has kept them nice and fresh, with only a handful of spots and slight edge-wear, including a very short closed tear to second volume. Some spine lean, with minor rubbing and bumping to extremities, though bindings firm. Ticket of the previous booksellers, Gieves of Portsmouth and owner's name in blue to endpapers of last two volumes, with only a few faint spots to each volume and map in second volume loose. The previous owner, a sailor in the Royal Navy, purchased these from the bookshop department of Gieves, outfitters to the Navy. Some newspaper clippings laid in to first vol. A nice set. 8vo.
