Contemporary leather spine abraded with losses to black title label (most lettering lost but seems to offer title as "Walker's Gazetteer"); slender vertical split to spine but holding; detached rear board well scuffed. Extant collation personally verified: iii-x, [1-8], foldout "A New Map of Africa from the best Authorities 1793", [9-24], foldout "A Correct Map of South American with the latest Discoveries 1793", foldout "An Accurate Map of North America with the New Discoveries 1793", [25-42], foldout "A New Map of Asia drawn from the Best Authorities 1793", [43-186], foldout "An Accurate Map of Europe Compiled from the best Authorities 1793", [187-580], [rfep], [rp]. Some toning to the extant several initial and rear leaves; occasional light interior soiling but most leaves remain clean. That edition was issued with six maps with the leadoff map being a frontispiece which, as mentioned previously, is not present (only five maps present as specified in collation). Past bookseller's pencil notes at top of page iii attributing this book as John Walker's "The Universal Gazetteer . . ." but the earliest edition (per OCLC) with Walker cited as an author is 1795. Sold as is - book now presented in a trimmed clear Dura-Lar (polyester film) sheet forming a dj which aids in securing the detached rear board and modestly enhances the book's wanting shelf presence.
