The Lady of Shalott, and Other Poems (The Lightbound Library)

Few poems have enchanted painters and readers alike as thoroughly as Alfred, Lord Tennyson's The Lady of Shalott - the tale of the cursed maiden who weaves the shadows of the world in her mirror until the sight of Sir Lancelot draws her down the river to Camelot and to death. This edition gathers the poem that inspired a generation of Pre-Raphaelite painters, alongside the finest of Tennyson's early lyric and narrative verse.

Here too are the dreaming isolation of Mariana in her moated grange, the languid enchantment of The Lotos-Eaters, and the rarely printed 1832 version of The Lady of Shalott for readers who wish to compare. Richly pictorial and deeply musical, these classic Victorian poems reveal why Tennyson became the most beloved poet of his age.
