About the Author

Robert Furman Kenney, Sr. is a native of northeast Mississippi. A graduate of Tupelo High School, Tupelo, MS; Mississippi College, Clinton, MS (B.A.), of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY (M.Div., Ph.D.). Served during WWII with the 9th Marine Regt., Third Div. in the South Pacific; stationed in New Zealand, on Guadalcanal, made the landings on Bougainville and Guam (received the bronze cross for meritorious service in combat). Was pastor of the Smithfield Baptist Church, Smithfield, VA and the Parkview Baptist Church, Newport News, VA; was the C.E.O. of the "Newport News Baptist Retirement Community" (now known as "The Chesapeake") in Newport News, VA. Author of sermons appearing in "More Southern Baptist Sermons", Zondervan Pastors' Annual; author of the thesis, "Jeremiah's Distinctive Contribution to Hebrew Psalmody"; pictorial history of The Chesapeake (covering first 30 years) unpublished; article which is to appear in the periodical, "Mature Living" entitled "Don't Pity Me!"; an autobiography entitled "People Like M'Self". Married to the former Evelyn Moore. Father of two children, Col. (Ret.) Bob Kenney and Martha Lynn Kenney. Grandfather of two grandsons, Patrick and Alex.
