About this Item
Lake County, situated directly north of Cook County, has long been home to some of Chicago's finest suburbs. Situated close to Lake Michigan and with easy rail access to the city, the various towns and communities were havens for the upper and middle class, including large immigrant populations. This map of the county was issued by Warner & Beers in 1876 and shows the extent of settlement in the last quarter of the 19th century. Transportation routes, post offices, schoolhouses, and even individual property owners are labeled within the image, which includes an inset map of Highland Park at the bottom. Geographic features like lakes, creeks, and mineral springs near Waukegan are also noted. Sheet Width (in) 14 Sheet Height (in) 17.25 Condition Description Heavy crease and some separation has been repaired in the upper right corner. Moderately toned and soiled, with spots of damp staining in the lower margin and dirty fingerprints on the right side. Fair to good condition. Seller Inventory # C009212
