Landfill Closures Environmental Protection and Land Recovery: Proceedings of Sessions Sponsored by the Environmental Geotechnics Committee of the . (Geotechnical Special Publication)

Municipal solid waste landfills are closing at a rapid rate as they reach capacity, undergo increased operations costs, and are governed by more complex and rigorous environmental regulations. In this concise compilation, invited and submitted papers detail landfill covers, leachate collection, landfill gas, and post closure issues, and land development. Among other topics, contributors compare soil barrier layers versus geosynthetic barriers in landfill cover systems; examine why dry landfills without leachate recirculation are effective; and review the design and construction of foundations compatible with wastes.
