Hardcover. Condition: Good. Immediate dispatch from Somerset. Nice older book in good condition. Pages in good bright condition. 1966 edition hardback. No notes or highlighting. See images. Fantastic book. About the book >.>.> The author of this work is well-known for his many informative and detailed studies of the Near East, and in this book he writes a comprehensive survey of the last hundred years in the history of the Ottoman Empire. From an account of Napoleon's campaigns in the Near East between 1801 and 1815 the author traces the gradual disintegration of the once dominant Empire. There is an illuminating chapter on the Greek War of Independence and the author then follows the movement for independence that spread from Greece into all the Balkan states of the Empire. His descriptions of the Balkan Crisis of 1875-78 and the unrest that grew in Armenia, Crete and Macedonia at the beginning of the twentieth century precede a chapter on the Turkish Revolution of 1908-12 that sets the scene for the state of Turkey at the beginning of the First World War. This work was originally published in 1913 as The Ottoman Empire 1801-13 and the Third Edition, of which this is a new impression, first appeared. Seller Inventory # Batch-FM396-G-9284
