1849. Fair/None. Soft red cloth covers with gold tooling, some rubbing/wear to edges/spine, few small holes, minor splitting to s[ine, minor scuffing/soiling. Contents generally clean and tight but for minor soiling, a little splitting to spine. Owner's name to ffep and reverse of frontis. Hand coloured plate at frontis. A charming little guide to floriography, the symbolic meaning of flowers. It was hugely popular with the Victorians, who used it to send coded messages on items such as jewelry, as well as in flower arrangements. The book is split into two parts - the first is an alphabetical list of flowers with their corresponding meanings, and the second an alphabetical list of meanings with their corresponding flowers. A lovely early copy.
