A fascinating book on linguistics with colour fold out maps and two colour tables on language to the rear. Frederic William Farrar was a cleric of the Church of England who became successively a canon of Westminster and rector of St Margaret's, Westminster, archdeacon of Westminster Abbey and the Dean of Canterbury. He was an eloquent preacher and a voluminous author. With previous owner's named bookplate to front pastedown 'William Young Macqueen'. In a decorative cloth binding. Externally, sound but slightly bumped. Internally, firmly bound. Bright but with scattered foxing, more pronounced to endpapers and the odd handling mark. Good.
