Synopsis

From the moment children first speak and attach a sound to an object or a person, language plays a significant and central part in their development. JAMES BRITTON is Emeritus Professor of Education, University of London. He is the author of Language and Learning (Penguin), and a selection of his essays, Prospect and Retrospect (Boynton/Cook), was published in 1982. He has also published several books for children.
