Through performing at the "grassroots level", Ruth has received public acclaim for her performances. Published in a number of small literary presses mostly by publisher request, she is still deeply involved in perfecting her art. She believes whole-heartedly in the power of the spoken word, as well as the written word and believes the two can and should meet, in order to take poetry to its next level.
Ruth recently moved to Fairhope, Alabama and is a member of the Alabama State Poetry Society, the Pensters Writing Group, a patron of the West Florida Literary Federation, and the founder of the New South Performance Poets Association. On Long Island, Ruth was a staff member of the Performance Poets Association of Long Island, NY, and also affiliated with the Montage Writers Group, the Montage Radio Theatre, the Acoustic Poets Network and the Live Poets Society. She also held the postion of poetry librarian of the Writers Club LTD Poetry Place for several months, hosted on America On Line (now also on the WWW) and was responsible for reviewing and uploading the works of over 6000 online poets. She was one of the original members involved in a project with a group of talented online poets called, "PoetProject" conceived and founded by KT Frankovich in January 1997.
Ruth's poetry has appeared in the Babylon Review, Zuzu's Petals Quarterly, Maelstrom, Internet Poetry Magazine, Emotions Magazine, Web of Words Anthology, Write Justified (England Mensa), and several online 'zines, and has her own section on the highly acclaimed acclaimed Poetry Cafe Website. David Taub, stateside journalist for "Poetry Now", England's largest poetry magazine, made special mention of her works and performances in the October issue 1997Solomon is also a published author of short stories Getting Real (The Burning Cloud Review) and School of the Stones (Pathways Press). Ruth has been contracted for two books, by Language of Souls Publishing, Inc. Canada, one an anthology entitled "Language of Souls" with two other poets, David Taub (England), K.T. Frankovitch (Florida) and a world renowned artist, Freydoon Rassouli to be released in September 1999. Her next book is her own, entitled "A UniVERSE InVERSEd will be released with CD, October 2000.
Ruth is an English Major at the University of South Alabama and founder of the New South Performance Poets Association, and hosts a reading venue at Barnes and Noble, Mobile AL every second Friday of the month. The Babylon Citizen's Arts Council honored Ruth with the Written Arts Award for the year 1998. Solomon has toured several states in 1997, and performed at Fanuell Hall, TT, the Bears, Phoenix Cafe, Nuyrican Poets Cafe, Borders Books, Books A Million, Barnes and Nobles among other venues and bookstores. She was the subject of a Channel 12 News interview performed on radio (WSUB). She hosted interactive poetry programs at the Amityville Public Library. Occasionally she does radio commentaries on poetry, and is planning to help create a Poem A Day program for a local public radio station (WHIL 93.3). Ruth is a staunch supporter of the creative endeavors of others and for two years ran a domain called the More than Books Realm, where they could find motivation, receive tip! s and read articles about others successfully making they way in their art and promote their own work. She also provides affordable creative services for fellow artists. When asked about her move to Fairhope, AL ... she simply says: "After all of my struggles, I finally feel like I've come home. Like I belong."
