The Language of Wolves

Why do we love our dogs and fear their wild ancestors?

War correspondent Joey McAllister grief has left her searching for a way forward after the tragic death of a close friend. Though never a dog person, Joey unexpectedly inherits his dog and retreats to the forests of Maine, into solitude and nature, with the new companionship of an animal she feels herself beginning to heal.

But the wilderness has other plans.

When a shocking encounter with a wolf pulls Joey into a dangerous mystery, she discovers that something far more sinister is happening beneath the surface. What begins as a deeply personal journey through heartbreak and loss soon becomes a fight against a conspiracy threatening wildlife and the natural world.

As Joey follows the trail, she is forced to confront not only those determined to silence the truth, but also the wounds she has carried with her for far too long. While caring for the dog she inherited, their newly formed friendship becomes a source of courage, love, and redemption.

Inspired by the real world history and politics of wolf conservation, including the 1995 reintroduction of gray wolves to Yellowstone, The Language of Wolves explores the uneasy boundary between civilization and wilderness and the ways in which awareness of their plight can shape our understanding of the creatures we share the world with.

Emotional, suspenseful, and deeply rooted in the human-animal connection, The Language of Wolves is an eco-thriller about grief, courage, healing, and the questions we must face when protecting the natural world means confronting some uncomfortable truths about ourselves.
