About the Author

Ken Barat was the Laser Safety Officer for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (The U.S. DOE s first research lab). He now operates an independent laser safety consulting firm, Laser Safety Solutions (lasersafetysolutions@ gmail.com). He is the former LSO for the National Ignition Facility Directorate and Executive Chair of the LSO Workshop series. He is a winner of Laser Institute of America and Bay Area Laser Safety Officers Jim Rockwell Awards. Barat is Fellow of the LIA and an IEEE Senior member. He is also a member of the UK Laser Safety Forum and the founder of DOE Laser Safety Working Group. He has authored two previous texts on laser safety as well as many articles and presentations on laser safety. Overall, a nice guy.
