Last Chance Cowboy

I’ve loved only two men in my life.

My grandfather: my namesake and the man who raised me.

And him. The small-town boy who’s too cocky and arrogant for his own good. The heartthrob every girl we knew wanted.

But while they only dreamed of getting close to him, I knew his heart. His truth. His secrets.

While they wanted him physically, I had him in every way that mattered. A series of first things that change a person forever: my first kiss, the first person I gave myself to–my first love.

We were best friends and trusted each other with the things only we shared together. So when we agreed to be together despite me moving over twelve hundred miles away for the job of my dreams, I believed him.

He was mine, and I was his. Nothing was going to get in the way of us finally telling one another how we felt–not even the distance.

Chance was my soulmate.

We made a promise–always and forever, he and I against the world, and no matter what, our friendship would never change.

Apparently, that was a lie.

Now, I’m back in our hometown and with one promise to myself.

Don’t fall back in love with Chance Ortega.
