First American edition, first printing. xvi, 371 pp. Bound in publisher's mustard cloth lettered in black on spine. Near Fine with light wear, and light soiling to back free endpaper; overopened at title page. In a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with light soiling, toning, and edgewear, shallow chipping at head of spine, and tiny hole to rear flap fold. A nice copy of the writer's first book, a speculative history of humanity extending over a billion years into the future. Arthur C. Clarke wrote that no book had ever had such an impact on his imagination.
