DJ is missing large pieces of paper from the top spine end, the adjacent front corner, and from the rear upper edge. DJ front has a small hole to the lower portion, a long creased edge tear, and some slight wrinkles. DJ has some rubbing to the rear, some other chips, and is now in a mylar cover. Half-title page is lightly foxed. ; Inscribed by the author on the half-title page to George M[cMurtrie] Godley, who was with the U. S. Foreign Service in Belgium: "A George M. Godley le [illegible word] de la Delegation Belge tres amical souvenir, Jo. Van der Elst, Dan Francisco June 1945".
