A mysterious exchange of objects governs the life of the inhabitants of Robledal, a small village nestled in the hills. One day, a local girl discovers something in the village which uncannily mixes reality and fiction, and realizes that the whole plot is run by an apparently immortal female cat.
A man stands on the roof of his house every night to watch the stars. His daughter asks if she can go with him to a mountain so he can be closer to them. There, they find something which helps them understand that there are even more important things in life than the night sky.
A grumpy old lady taxes the patience of her neighbours. Charlie decides to give her a lesson, but the snow dragon that he builds in front of the old lady's house comes to life in a completely unexpected way.
A river floods the streets of a nearby village. Catalina takes her mother's kayak to explore the effects of the floods, and the violent power of the rushing water pushes her to a strange place which will decide her future.
Three friends go on an expedition to the shore of a fjord. One of them catches three eels, which exert a strange influence on them. Before the expedition is over, the three of them will have changed forever.
The tales in The Last Moon and Other Borderland Encounters are set in a liminal reality which prompts the characters to engage in a dialogue with the strange and marvellous powers of the world in which they live, and to redefine who they are.
