Synopsis
Shares conversations with a variety of priests, including a recovering alcoholic, a canon lawyer, a rural bishop, a theologian, a sex offender, an HIV positive priest, and a resigned priest
From Library Journal
Unsworth, an editor with U.S. Parish , has linked together 42 interviews with men who share their love of the ministry as well as the frustrations of aging, homosexuality, celibacy, loneliness, and the politics of being a priest. Statistical facts are presented with the interviews, warning that the shortage of priests will continue to escalate unless solutions are found. Unsworth claims that for every ten priests lost only six are ordained, and with the continued growth of the Catholic population the role of future priests will be radically altered. Each of the men interviewed offers his insights regarding the role of the priesthood and the special problems he must face. This accessible study will help answer questions and perhaps erase the mystique of priesthood. Recommended for general collections.
