She buried her mother on Thursday. She is supposed to get married on Saturday. Somewhere between the two, Elena boards the last train before morning.
At forty-one, Elena has built the life she once promised herself she would have: stable, sensible, safe. A good job. A comfortable home. A kind man waiting at the coast to become her husband.
It is everything her mother's life was not.
But after the funeral, Elena finds an unopened letter her mother wrote to her and never sent. Unable to face what it might contain, she boards the 11:47 night train carrying the letter in her bag and a question she has spent years refusing to ask:
Did she choose this life because she wanted it, or because she was afraid of every other one?
Through the long hours before dawn, strangers enter her carriage one by one.
A widower carrying his wife's ashes and thirty years of regret.
A woman walking away from a perfectly decent marriage.
A former musician who made the right choice and still grieves what it cost him.
A young mother discovering that love and being able to stay are not always the same thing.
A son racing toward the father he has not spoken to in twenty years.
And finally, a girl Elena knows better than anyone.
Each leaves her with a story. None gives her the answer.
As night gives way to morning and the coast draws closer, Elena must finally open the letter, confront the woman she once was, and decide whether the safest life can still be a true one when it is chosen with open eyes.
Tender, haunting and quietly life-changing, The Last Train Before Morning is a novel about the roads not taken, the lives we postpone, the people we become while trying not to become someone else, and the courage it takes to wake up before the journey is over.
For readers who love emotionally rich, thought-provoking fiction about regret, second chances, grief, love and the ordinary decisions that shape an entire life.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
